Seasons
Each season starts on the pre-rift event for each new set of Riftbound, and ends on the next one. Each Season is split into 2 Phases marked by the first Summoner Skirmish of that set.
Scoring
During a season players score points based on their performance at Riftbound events hosted at d20, as well as community rewarded points described below.
Performance Points
Performance points are scored during qualifying events (Nexus Nights, Tournaments and Summoner Skirmishes). They are multiplied by the Phase they are scored in (Phase 2 is worth double points).
+3 points for attending. From Season 2 this will increase to 4.
+1 point per Game won (it does not have to be against another League player)
If your opponent forfeits a match that you wanted to play, you gain a match winning amount of points (2 for bo3, 1 for bo1).
If you bypass a match (e.g. to split prizes) you gain no points.
In team matches, teammates all score a point each.
+1 point per Bye in a best of 1 round
+2 points per Bye in a best of 3 round
Community Points
+2 points for attending a casual night at d20. From Season 2 this will increase to 3 in Phase 1 and 5 in Phase 2.
+3 points for bringing a new player into the league. From Season 2 this will increase to 6.
The new player must declare you as the reason they've joined the League. If they do not at least semi-regularly attend the rest of the Season, these points might be deducted from you.
Regular riftbound players (I know who you are) can't score some extra cheeky points by saying they wouldn't be in the league otherwise.
+1 x Phase points for "losing" a game while teaching a new player at an event
E.g. you're showing your opponent your hand, giving them advice on how to beat you, or just letting them win for confidence
Community Votes
+6 points in Phase 1 and +9 in Phase 2 for being voted "best of" in the following categories. Voting takes place near the end of each Phase and votes cast strategically rather than in the spirit of sportsmanship may be penalised
Best Opponent - who did you enjoy playing against the most? Whether it is because they let you take back / replay actions, were a gracious winner / loser or just fun to play against
Most Inspiring - who inspired you the most? Whether they inspired you to perform better, they brought new ideas to the meta, or they were just interesting to watch play
Most Improved - who has improved their gameplay the most? Not just for newbies learning the game, but also who has stepped up their game and become more of a challenge
+2 points for voting in each of the above categories per Phase. Don't vote for yourself.
Prizes
Prizes are rewarded based on points (and scale depending on numbers of players participating) scored over each period.
Phase prizes are awarded on the points scored only during that Phase.
Season prizes are awarded on the points scored during the entire Season.
Events are still prized as normal (e.g. booster packs and nexus night packs from the current set, and the skirmish champion cards and playmat).
Prizes are unlocked by the qualifying events during the Phase / Season having an average number of participating players above a certain threshold as shown in the tables below. Season 2 will include Casual events towards the threshold.
Prizes are awarded at the next event after a Phase / Season ends.
Prizes will be different per Season.
Prizes are cumulative in the row, left to right if the average player count threshold is met..
Free Legend or entry to Events are not transferable.
Participation Prizes are given to players who attend at least half of the events in the Phase. Season 2 will have Participation Prizes at the Season level, not per Phase.
If a physical prize like a promo card is not unlocked due to low attendance, it might be rolled into the prize pull of the next Season, sold to the highest bidder, kept by d20, etc.
Legend
To be a Legend in d20's Legendary League of League of Legends: Riftbound costs £10 per Phase but can be won by ranking high in the previous Phase, or by being a d20 yearly member.
Being a Legend for either Phase counts for being a Legend for the Season's prizes
Being a Legend gives the following benefits:
- Unlocks additional prizes, the blue highlighted prizes in the prize tables require being a Legend to win. If a non-Legend player places at that rank, the prize will be kept as though it wasn't unlocked (see above).
- 1 extra Holiday (see below) in the Phase (which helps maintain the player count, which means more prizes for everyone!)
- Your votes for the community categories count as 1.25 votes, meaning your vote would break a tie.
- Helps d20 secure unique and interesting prizes for future Seasons.
From Season 2, Legend will be £10 for the whole Season and not available after Phase 1.
Additional Rules
League Organiser
Your League Organiser (LO) until further notice is Jim. The best way to reach him outside of an event is to @jim in the Riftbound channel on the d20 discord server, or DM directly on discord (link found on bottom of page).
Holiday
Twice per Season before an event you can't attend, you can declare a holiday for that event > you score 1 point less than the player who scored the least amount of performance points during that event. Inform the LO as soon as possible to ensure you're booked as taking a Holiday. See also Max Capacity below.
Holidays count towards the player count for that event in terms of unlocking prizes.
The first Holiday in a Phase by a Legend does not count against their limit of 2 per season.
Max Capacity
In the scenario where you cannot book an event because it is fully booked out and we've reached capacity, inform the LO as soon as possible that you wish to attend. We might be able to fit you into the event, or put you onto a waiting list in case of cancellations. If you're particularly eager, feel free to come to the event to spectate, and hope for a last minute drop out.
If you miss an event because of capacity reasons and you informed the LO before the event started that you wished to attend, you will score 1 less than the average number of performance points scored by players in that event.
If you booked a holiday for an event that reaches capacity of attending players (not just booked), your Holiday is "refunded" (you can use it again) and you score points as above (1 less than the average rather than 1 less than lowest).
Catchup
If you are in the lower 50% of active League players (in Season points) before an event, you score 1 extra point per Game won during that event (adjusted by the Phase multiplier).
What counts as an "active" player is at the discretion of the LO but a player will normally become inactive after their 2nd consecutively missed event (not including Holidays or capacity issues). This doesn't affect their score, it just means that the current players who need it can benefit from the catchup mechanic.
After returning and attending an event an inactive player is active again and may benefit from the Catchup mechanic that event if their score is in the lower 50%.
Joining in Phase 2
Players can join in Phase 2 of a Season scoring 1 less than the active player that was in last position at the end of Phase 1.
These points are counted towards their Season total, but not included in their score for the current Phase.
The new player will benefit from the Catchup mechanic for their first event.
Joining Mid Phase
Players can join a Phase already in progress (including players who are rejoining after missing the start of Phase 2) and score 1 less than the active player that was in last position before their first event.
These points count towards both the current Phase and Season.
A returning player (who played in Season 1) will benefit from the Catchup mechanic if their updated score is in the lower 50%.
Later Joiner and Catchup Limit
Players are limited in the amount of points they can gain from the catchup and joining late mechanics - they cannot overtake the top ranked player with these points alone.
